Can someone explain what is proxy setting and how it works? or What is proxy setting and why would I

"New to networking—what is proxy setting and how do I configure it?"

Hey guys, so I’ve been hearing about proxy settings but tbh I’m kinda lost. Like, what is proxy setting exactly? Is it some kinda middleman for your internet or what?

And how do you even set it up? Do I need it for normal browsing or just for specific stuff?

Also, does it slow down your connection? I’ve got enough lag as it is lol.

If anyone can break it down in simple terms, that’d be awesome. Thanks!
