Reverse Proxy vs Proxy Server: What's the Real Difference and Which One Should You Use?

Hey everyone,

So I’ve been digging into the whole reverse proxy vs proxy server thing, and honestly, it’s a bit confusing at first glance. Like, both kinda *proxy* stuff, right? But they’re not the same.

A regular proxy sits between *you* and the internet—hides your IP, filters content, ya know? But a *reverse* proxy? It’s on the *server* side, handling requests before they hit the actual backend. Think load balancing, SSL termination, or even hiding server identities.

Which one should you use? Depends! Need anonymity or bypass geo-blocks? Go proxy. Running a website and wanna optimize traffic? Reverse proxy all the way.

Anyone else struggled with this at first? Or am I just overcomplicating it? 😅

Cheers!
