"Wait, do I *really* need a reverse proxy server for my self-hosted stuff?"

Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole reverse proxy server thing, and I’m kinda torn. Like, my setup’s small—just a couple web apps—but everyone’s screaming "USE A REVERSE PROXY!!"

But... why?

From what I get, it’s not just about hiding your backend (cool, security++), but also load balancing, SSL termination (bye-bye cert headaches), and even caching for speed. Nginx, Traefik, Caddy—they all do this, right?

But is it overkill for a homelab? Or am I dumb for *not* using one?

Also, why’s the config always so annoying? YAML files, wildcard certs... ugh.

Convince me—worth the hassle or nah?

(Or just tell me which reverse proxy server won’t make me rage-quit.)
