Why Are Authorities Different From Each User on Reddit? How Does Moderation Work? Alternatively, for a more

"Can someone explain why are authorities different from each user reddit? Like, some ppl can ban you, others can't... how does this even work?"

I’ve noticed that mods in one sub have way more power than regular users, but then in another sub, it’s totally different.

Is it just mod discretion? Or are there actual rules? Feels kinda random sometimes ngl.

Also, why are authorities different from each user reddit? Like, who decides who gets to be a mod? Is it just whoever created the sub?

Kinda confusing tbh. Anyone got the inside scoop?

*(also, sorry if this has been asked before—did a quick search but couldn’t find a clear answer.)*
