"Proxy setup giving you headaches? Let's figure it out!"

Hey everyone,

Struggling with your proxy setup here. Everything *seems* right, but pages load slow or just time out. Tried a few configs, but no luck.

Anyone else run into this? Maybe a quick fix or some settings I’m missing?

Also, what’s your go-to for balancing speed and security in a proxy setup? Heard mixed things about different protocols.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! Had the same issue last week. Turns out my proxy setup was using HTTP/1.1 instead of HTTP/2. Switched it and boom—way faster.

Also, check your DNS settings. Sometimes a slow DNS resolver can make everything crawl. I use Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 now and it’s a game-changer.

For security vs speed, I stick with WireGuard for VPN proxies. Lightweight and fast.
Ugh, proxy setup struggles are the worst. Have you tried tweaking the timeout settings? Sometimes defaults are way too low.

Also, if you’re using Squid, check the cache_dir size. Too small and it’ll choke.

My go-to for balancing speed/security is HAProxy with TLS 1.3. Works like a charm.
Yo, slow loads could be a MTU issue. Try lowering your MTU size to 1400 and see if it helps.

For tools, Proxycap is solid for debugging. And if you’re on Windows, Fiddler is a lifesaver for tracing proxy traffic.
Been there! Double-check your proxy authentication settings. Had a similar issue where creds were correct but the auth header was malformed.

For speed vs security, I’d say go for SOCKS5 with a lightweight auth method. Less overhead than HTTP proxies.

Oh, and avoid chaining proxies—it’s a latency nightmare.
If pages timeout, your proxy might be blocking certain ports. Try testing with a different port (e.g., 8080 instead of 3128).

For tools, mitmproxy is great for seeing what’s actually going through your proxy. Super handy for debugging.

And yeah, avoid free proxies if you care about speed. They’re usually overloaded.
Wow, thanks for all the tips! Switched to HTTP/2 and adjusted the MTU size like some of you suggested, and it’s already way better.

Still getting occasional timeouts though—gonna dig into the logs and try mitmproxy.

Quick Q: Anyone know if SOCKS5 plays nice with IPv6? Heard mixed things.

Thanks again, y’all are legends!
Hey! Random thought—have you checked your proxy logs? Sometimes the answer’s right there in the error messages.

For balancing speed/security, I’ve had good luck with Nginx as a reverse proxy. Plus, it’s easy to tweak for performance.

Also, make sure your proxy isn’t doing unnecessary SSL inspection. That can slow things down a ton.
