"Can a Proxy Check Really Tell If My IP Is Masked?"
Hey guys, quick question—how reliable is a proxy check for spotting hidden IPs?
I’ve used a few tools that claim to detect proxies/VPNs, but sometimes they miss stuff. Like, my VPN still slips through sometimes lol.
Are these checks just looking at basic stuff like blacklists, or do they dig deeper? And if they fail, what’s the point?
Also, anyone know if a proxy check can tell the *difference* between a VPN and a proxy? Or do they just flag both as "suspicious"?
Kinda curious if it’s worth relying on these or if there’s a better way. Thx!
(Also, sorry for typos—on mobile.)
Proxy checks are hit or miss tbh. Most just scan blacklists or check for known VPN IPs.
If your VPN slips through, it’s probably because the proxy check tool isn’t updated or your VPN uses residential IPs (which are harder to detect).
Sites like IPQS or MaxMind dig deeper with things like ASN checks and behavior analysis, but even they aren’t perfect.
And yeah, most tools just flag both VPNs and proxies as "suspicious" without distinguishing.
If you really wanna test, try multiple proxy check tools and compare results.
Honestly, proxy checks are kinda basic. They mostly rely on databases of known VPN/proxy IPs.
If your VPN isn’t in their list, it’ll slip through. Some tools like WhatIsMyIPAddress or DNSLeakTest can help spot leaks, but they’re not foolproof.
The difference between VPN and proxy? Most checks don’t care—they just see "not a residential IP" and flag it.
For better accuracy, you’d need something like FingerprintJS, but that’s overkill for casual use.
Proxy checks are useful but not 100%. They’re good for catching lazy setups, but smart VPNs/proxies can bypass them.
Tools like IP2Location or BrightData’s proxy detector are decent, but they still miss stuff.
And nah, most don’t differentiate between VPNs and proxies—just lump ’em together.
If you’re paranoid, combine a proxy check with a DNS leak test. That’ll give you a better idea.
Kinda depends on the tool. Free proxy check sites? Meh. Paid ones? Better but still not perfect.
Some VPNs rotate IPs so fast that proxy checks can’t keep up. And yeah, they rarely tell you if it’s a VPN or proxy—just "suspicious."
If you wanna test, try Whoer.net or IPLogger. They’re not flawless, but they’re better than nothing.
Also, mobile VPNs are even harder to detect, so that might explain why yours slips through.
Proxy checks are like spam filters—they catch the obvious stuff but miss the clever ones.
Most just cross-reference IPs with blacklists. If your VPN uses fresh IPs, it’ll bypass them.
Tools like IPinfo or ProxyCheck.io are decent, but they’re not magic.
And no, they usually don’t care if it’s a VPN or proxy. Just "not a normal IP? Flag it."
For better results, try a combo of checks and manual testing.
Thanks for the replies! Super helpful.
I tried IPQS and Whoer.net like some of you suggested, and yeah, my VPN got caught on one but not the other. Weird, right?
Also, didn’t realize most proxy checks don’t even bother separating VPNs from proxies. Kinda lazy imo.
One more Q—anyone know if these checks can detect Tor? Or is that a whole different beast?
(And thx for the mobile typos grace lol.)
Lol yeah, proxy checks are inconsistent. My VPN gets flagged sometimes, other times it’s fine.
They’re mostly looking for known bad IPs, so if your VPN isn’t on their radar, you’re good.
Sites like HideMyAss or IPLeak.net can help, but they’re not perfect either.
And nah, they don’t usually distinguish VPNs from proxies. Just "hey, this looks weird."
If you’re worried, just use multiple tools and see what sticks.
