"Seriously, how do I block Chrome from collecting data without wrecking everything?"
Ugh, Chrome is *such* a data hog. I get that it needs *some* info to work, but c'mon—why does it need to know my entire life story?
I’ve tried extensions, tweaking settings, even switching to "incognito" (lol, like that helps). But I still feel like it’s sneaking stuff.
Anyone found a solid way to block Chrome from collecting data *without* breaking every website? Like, I still need my tabs to load, but I don’t need Google knowing my cat’s birthday.
Best tips? Extensions? Secret settings? Or is this just a losing battle?
(Also, pls don’t just say "use Firefox"… unless it’s *really* the only way.)
If you wanna block Chrome from collecting data without breaking stuff, try uBlock Origin + Privacy Badger.
They don’t just block ads but also trackers. Also, go into Chrome’s settings and disable "Allow Chrome sign-in" and turn off "Web & App Activity" in your Google account.
Still feels like whack-a-mole, but it helps.
Honestly, Chrome is *built* to siphon data. You can slow it down, but stopping it completely? Tough.
Try switching to a Chromium-based browser like Brave—it blocks trackers by default and still works with Chrome extensions.
Or dig into chrome://flags and disable "Enable Privacy Sandbox trials." Not perfect, but better than nothing.
I feel you. Even with extensions, Chrome finds a way.
Two things that helped me:
1. Use Decentraleyes to stop CDN tracking.
2. Set your DNS to something like NextDNS or Control D—blocks a ton of junk before it even hits your browser.
Still gotta tweak, but sites don’t break as much.
Lol @ "cat’s birthday." Real talk tho, Chrome’s gonna Chrome.
Try this:
- Install "I don’t care about cookies" to stop cookie popups (less tracking).
- Go to chrome://settings/content and block third-party cookies.
- Use a VPN to mask your IP.
Not foolproof, but it’s something.
Thanks for all the tips! Gonna try uBlock + NextDNS first—seems like the least disruptive combo.
Quick Q: Anyone notice if blocking third-party cookies breaks logins? I had that happen once and had to whitelist a few sites.
Also, lol @ "whack-a-mole." Accurate.
You’re fighting an uphill battle, but here’s my setup:
- Cookie AutoDelete (set to nuke cookies when tabs close).
- Disable "Predictive network actions" in settings.
- Use a local hosts file to block known trackers (like someonewhocares.org/hosts/).
Sites *mostly* work, and Google gets less. Win?
If you’re *really* trying to block Chrome from collecting data, check out "Chrome Privacy Guide" on GitHub.
It’s a step-by-step to lock things down. Also, enable "Do Not Track" (even if sites ignore it) and disable "Sync" if you don’t need it.
Still feels like a band-aid, tho.
Yep, Chrome’s a nightmare. My hack?
- Use "Temporary Containers" (Firefox, sorry) for logged-out browsing.
- For Chrome, try "BlockSite" to manually block Google’s tracking domains.
- Set your search to DuckDuckGo or Startpage.
Not perfect, but cuts down the creep factor.
