"Why won’t the Default Reddit website to new layout stay selected?"

ugh, this is driving me nuts. Every time I open Reddit, it keeps switching back to the old layout. I *hate* the old one.

I go to settings, switch the Default Reddit website to new, but it just won’t stick. Am I missing something?

Tried clearing cookies, logging out/in... no luck.

Anyone else dealing with this? Or is there a secret trick to force it? Pls help, the old layout feels like dial-up internet.

(Also, why does Reddit make this so hard??)
Same issue here! The Default Reddit website to new layout just won’t stay selected for me either.

I found a workaround though—try using the Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) browser extension. It has a setting to force the new layout.

Also, make sure you’re not accidentally clicking the "Opt out of new Reddit" link at the bottom of the page. That thing’s sneaky.
Ugh, Reddit’s being so stubborn with this.

I had the same problem until I switched browsers. For some reason, Chrome kept reverting, but Firefox kept the Default Reddit website to new layout fine.

Maybe give that a shot? Also, check if any ad-blockers or scripts are interfering.
Yeah, this is a known bug. Reddit’s been weird about forcing the old layout for months.

Try this:
- Go to https://www.reddit.com/prefs
- Scroll to "beta options" and enable "Use new Reddit as my default experience."

Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn’t. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The old layout is the worst. I feel your pain.

For me, the Default Reddit website to new setting only stayed after I deleted ALL Reddit cookies, not just logged out.

Also, try this URL: https://new.reddit.com —bookmark it and use that instead.
Reddit’s just broken like that.

I gave up and started using a third-party app (like Apollo or Boost) instead. Way better than dealing with the site’s nonsense.

But if you’re stuck on desktop, maybe try a userscript like "Old Reddit Redirect" to force the new layout.
OP here—thanks for all the suggestions!

Deleting ALL cookies + using the new.reddit.com link finally worked. Still annoying that Reddit makes this so hard though.

Why can’t they just let us pick a layout and stick with it? Smh.
This drove me crazy too!

Turns out, some subreddits override the Default Reddit website to new setting if they’re stuck in the past.

Try visiting a neutral sub like r/all or r/popular after switching—sometimes that “locks” it in.
