"Why Can’t I Change My Chrome Proxy Settings? Help!"

ugh, so frustrated rn. my chrome proxy settings just won’t budge! i’ve tried changing them in settings, but it keeps reverting or just...does nothing.

anyone else deal with this? i’m on windows 10, btw.

also, is there a way to reset chrome proxy settings to default without messing up my whole system?

pls help, this is driving me nuts 😩

keep getting weird errors when tweaking my chrome proxy settings. like, "unable to save" or just straight-up ignoring my changes.

tried restarting chrome, even my pc. no luck.

any shortcuts or hidden tricks to force it to work? thx!
Hey, I had the same issue last week! Turns out my antivirus was overriding chrome proxy settings. Check if yours has a "web protection" or firewall feature messing with it.

Also, try resetting chrome flags by typing `chrome://flags` in the address bar and hitting "Reset all." Worked for me!
omg this drove me CRAZY until i found out my work VPN was locking it. If you're on a managed network (school/work), admin might block changes.

For a quick reset, open cmd and paste:
`netsh winhttp reset proxy`
Then restart chrome. Hope it helps!
Bro, same. Chrome proxy settings are weirdly stubborn. Try this:

1. Go to Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy
2. Toggle "Automatically detect settings" OFF then ON
3. Restart Chrome

If that fails, maybe malware? Run Malwarebytes just in case.
Ugh, Chrome’s proxy system is a mess. If it’s reverting, check group policy (if you’re on Windows Pro):
- Hit Win+R, type `gpedit.msc`
- Navigate to Computer Config > Admin Templates > Network > Network Isolation
- Look for weird overrides.

Else, try a clean Chrome reinstall (backup bookmarks first!).
FYI, some extensions like Hola VPN or Betternet can hijack chrome proxy settings. Disable all extensions temporarily to test!

(Scroll to the "Manual Reset" section.)
Yo, thanks everyone!! The `netsh winhttp reset proxy` command + disabling extensions worked! Chrome proxy settings finally stuck.

Weirdly, my "Privacy Badger" extension was the culprit. Anyways, huge relief—appreciate the help! 🙌

(Still gonna check that malware tip tho, just in case.)
lol chrome being chrome. Try this nuclear option:
- Type `chrome://net-internals/#proxy` in the address bar
- Click "Re-apply settings" and "Clear bad proxies"
- Restart your router too (sounds dumb but fixes weird cache issues).

If still stuck, maybe your ISP is forcing a proxy?
Had this exact problem! My fix was dumb simple—just delete Chrome’s profile folder.
1. Close Chrome
2. Delete `C:\Users\[YOU]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default`
3. Relaunch Chrome (it’ll make a fresh profile).

Warning: You’ll lose saved passwords unless synced.
