Subject: Need help setting up a proxy server – any step-by-step guides?

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to figure out setting up a proxy server for a small project, but man, it’s confusing. 😅

Anyone got a solid step-by-step guide or tips to make this smoother? I’ve seen a few tutorials, but they either skip steps or assume you already know stuff.

Also, what’s the easiest way to test if it’s working right? Don’t wanna mess this up.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

(PS: If you’ve got a fav tool or software for setting up a proxy server, lmk!)
Hey! Setting up a proxy server can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad.

I’d recommend checking out Squid Proxy—it’s super popular and has tons of docs online.

For testing, just use a site like whatismyip.com to see if your IP changes.

Also, DigitalOcean has a great step-by-step guide for setting up a proxy server on Ubuntu. Helped me a ton!
Yo, been there! The hardest part is picking the right tool.

If you’re on Windows, CCProxy is dead simple. For Linux, Squid or Nginx work great.

To test, just curl ifconfig.me from your terminal—if it shows the proxy IP, you’re golden.

Pro tip: Don’t skip the firewall settings. That’s where most folks mess up.
Setting up a proxy server? Nice!

I used this guide from Linode last week—super clear and no skipped steps: [link].

For testing, try browsing with the proxy enabled and check your IP. Or use a tool like Postman to send requests through it.

Oh, and avoid free proxies for anything serious. They’re slow and sketchy.
Ugh, proxy setup is such a pain until it clicks.

I’d say start with a VM or cloud instance so you don’t wreck your main machine.

For tools, Squid is my go-to, but if you want GUI, check out 3proxy.

Testing? Just ping google.com through the proxy and see if it resolves.
Hey! For setting up a proxy server, I swear by this YouTube tutorial—it’s slow but covers everything.

Also, TinyProxy is a lightweight option if you don’t need all the bells and whistles.

To test, just configure your browser to use the proxy and hit up ipinfo.io. Easy peasy.
Wow, thanks for all the replies!

I tried Squid based on your suggestions, and it’s working-ish? But I’m stuck on the firewall part—keeps blocking the port.

Also, that DigitalOcean guide was super helpful, but I’m still confused about logging. How do I check if requests are actually going through?

Thanks again, y’all are lifesavers! 🙌
Dude, proxies are wild.

If you’re on Windows, just use the built-in IIS ARR module. It’s not perfect, but it’s quick.

For testing, open cmd and run `tracert google.com`—if the first hop is your proxy, you’re good.

Also, avoid public proxies unless you hate your privacy.
Setting up a proxy server? Here’s my two cents:

Use Docker if you wanna avoid dependency hell. There’s a pre-built Squid image that works out of the box.

For testing, `curl -x http://yourproxy:port http://example.com` is your best friend.

And yeah, docs are always missing something. Stack Overflow is your backup.
