Has anyone used ipip.net for IP geolocation? How accurate is it compared to other services?

Hey everyone,

So, I’ve been messing around with ipip.net for IP geolocation lately, and I gotta say, it’s *pretty* solid. Like, it’s not perfect (what is, right?), but it’s def up there in terms of accuracy.

Compared to some other services I’ve tried, ipip.net seems to nail the city-level stuff more often than not. But hey, sometimes it’s off by a few miles, which can be annoying if you’re super picky.

Anyone else used ipip.net? How’s it been for you? I’m curious if it’s just me or if others think it’s better/worse than MaxMind or IP2Location.

Also, does anyone know if ipip.net updates their data frequently? Cuz that’s kinda a big deal for me.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Let me know what y’all think!
I’ve been using ipip.net for a while now, and I agree, it’s pretty solid for city-level accuracy. I’ve tried MaxMind and IP2Location too, but ipip.net seems to have a slight edge in my experience.

That said, I’ve noticed it can be a bit hit or miss with rural areas. If you’re looking for alternatives, you might wanna check out DB-IP. They’ve got a free tier, and their data seems pretty fresh.

As for updates, ipip.net does update their database, but I’m not sure how frequently. Maybe someone else here knows more?
ipip.net is decent, but I’ve had better luck with IPinfo.io for pinpoint accuracy. Their API is super easy to use, and they update their data pretty regularly.

If you’re into self-hosting, you could also try GeoLite2 from MaxMind. It’s free, and you can update the database as often as you want.

But yeah, ipip.net is still a good option if you’re not too picky about those few miles of difference.
Honestly, ipip.net is my go-to for quick IP geolocation checks. It’s not perfect, but it’s reliable enough for most of my projects.

I’ve heard good things about IP2Location, but I haven’t used it enough to compare. Does anyone know if IP2Location updates their data more frequently than ipip.net?

Also, if you’re looking for something free, check out IPAPI. It’s pretty accurate and has a decent free tier.
ipip.net is solid, but I’ve found that it struggles a bit with mobile IPs. For mobile accuracy, I’d recommend trying out Neustar. They’re a bit pricier, but their data is top-notch.

As for updates, I think ipip.net updates quarterly? Not 100% sure though. Maybe someone else can confirm.
I’ve been using ipip.net for a few months now, and it’s been great for my needs. I’ve tried MaxMind, but I feel like ipip.net is more user-friendly.

If you’re looking for something with frequent updates, you might wanna check out IPGeolocation.io. They claim to update daily, which is pretty impressive.

But yeah, ipip.net is still a solid choice overall.
Thanks for all the replies, everyone! Super helpful to hear your experiences and recommendations.

I think I’ll give IPinfo.io and IPGeolocation.io a try since a few of you mentioned they update more frequently.

Also, good to know ipip.net updates quarterly—I’ll keep that in mind.

If anyone else has more insights on ipip.net or other tools, feel free to share!
ipip.net is good, but I’ve had some issues with it being off by a few miles, especially in densely populated areas.

For better accuracy, I’d recommend trying out Abstract API. They’ve got a free tier, and their data seems pretty fresh.

As for updates, I think ipip.net updates every few months, but I’m not entirely sure.
I’ve been using ipip.net for a while, and it’s been pretty reliable for me. I’ve tried a few others, but ipip.net seems to be the most consistent.

If you’re looking for alternatives, you might wanna check out IPStack. They’ve got a free tier, and their data is pretty accurate.

As for updates, I think ipip.net updates quarterly, but I’m not entirely sure.
ipip.net is solid, but I’ve found that it can be a bit inconsistent with certain regions.

For better accuracy, I’d recommend trying out IPData. They’ve got a free tier, and their data seems pretty fresh.

As for updates, I think ipip.net updates every few months, but I’m not entirely sure.
