"Why Can't I Save My Chrome Browser Proxy Settings? Any Fixes?"

hey guys,

so i’ve been trying to tweak my chrome browser proxy settings for better privacy, but every time i hit save, it just... doesn’t? like, it resets or something.

am i missing a step here? i’m on windows 10, followed the usual steps (settings > advanced > system > open proxy settings). even tried restarting chrome, no luck.

anyone else run into this? is there a secret trick or is chrome just being stubborn?

thanks in advance!

"How Do I Configure Chrome Browser Proxy Settings for Better Privacy?"

hey folks,

kinda new to this—want to lock down my chrome browser proxy settings for more privacy. but all the guides are either too techy or outdated.

any simple steps that actually work in 2024? preferably without extensions if possible.

also, does it affect speed much?

thanks!

lmk if you want any tweaks!
Hey! Had the same issue with chrome browser proxy settings not saving. Turns out, Windows sometimes overrides Chrome’s settings.

Try this:
Go to Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy and make sure "Use setup script" or "Manual proxy setup" matches what you’re trying to do in Chrome.

If that doesn’t work, check if any antivirus is blocking changes. Bitdefender gave me trouble once.
yo, for mac users struggling with chrome browser proxy settings, just use the command line.

open terminal and paste:
`/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --proxy-server="http=yourproxy:port"`

works every time and skips the GUI mess.
Ugh, Chrome’s proxy settings are so finicky. I gave up and just switched to Firefox for privacy stuff.

But if you’re stuck on Chrome, try this extension: Proxy SwitchyOmega. Lets you save profiles and switch fast.

Also, check if your admin policies are locked (chrome://policy/). Corporate laptops love to block this stuff.
For better privacy with chrome browser proxy settings, skip the manual config and use a VPN extension like Windscribe.

Proxies can slow things down, but a good VPN balances speed + privacy. Plus, no weird save issues.

Bonus: they have a free tier to test it out.
Wait, are you using Chrome or Chrome *Beta/Dev*? The beta versions sometimes reset settings randomly.

Also, clear your cache before changing chrome browser proxy settings. Weird glitches happen if old data sticks around.
thanks for all the tips! tried the windows network settings trick and it worked. weird how chrome browser proxy settings depend on that.

still kinda slow though—anyone know if a different proxy type (socks5?) speeds things up?

also, might check out that switchyomega thing. cheers!
If you’re on Windows 10, try this:
1. Open Registry Editor (regedit)
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
3. Check if "ProxyEnable" is set to 1.

Sometimes Chrome pulls from here, and if it’s locked, nothing saves.
Pro tip: Use a PAC file for chrome browser proxy settings. It’s more reliable than manual entry.

Just host a simple .pac file (Google has templates) and point Chrome to it. No more resets!
Honestly? Just ditch Chrome for this. Their proxy settings are broken half the time.

Brave or LibreWolf handle proxies way better if privacy’s your goal.
