"How do I disable proxy? Need help turning it off!"
Hey guys, I’m kinda stuck here. My internet’s acting up, and I think it’s cuz of some proxy settings.
I’ve been getting weird connection errors, and someone told me to check if a proxy’s enabled. Problem is, I have no clue how do i disable proxy on my PC.
I’m on Windows 10 btw. Tried googling but the steps are all over the place. Can someone break it down for me in simple terms? Like, where do I even find these settings?
Also, if I turn it off, will it mess up anything else? Just wanna make sure I don’t break my internet even more lol.
Thanks in advance! 🙏
Hey! Disabling a proxy on Windows 10 is pretty straightforward.
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy. Under "Manual proxy setup," just toggle off "Use a proxy server."
If you’re still having issues, run a malware scan—sometimes sketchy software enables proxies without you knowing. Malwarebytes is a good free tool for that.
Let me know if it works!
lol been there. Proxies can be a pain.
Quick fix: Press Win + R, type "inetcpl.cpl," hit Enter. Go to Connections > LAN settings. Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN."
Boom, done. If your internet’s still weird, maybe reset your router too.
If you’re wondering how do i disable proxy without messing up other stuff, don’t worry—it won’t break anything. Proxies are usually optional unless your work/school forces them.
Check Chrome too (if you use it): Settings > Advanced > System > Open proxy settings. Same steps as above.
Bro, same thing happened to me last week. Turns out some VPNs auto-enable proxies.
Try this:
1. Open CMD as admin
2. Type `netsh winhttp reset proxy`
3. Restart
Fixed it for me. Also, check if any VPN apps are running in the background.
Thanks everyone! Tried the steps and it worked.
Went to Settings > Network > Proxy and turned it off. Also ran `netsh winhttp reset proxy` just to be safe. Internet’s back to normal now.
Weirdly, I have no idea how the proxy got enabled in the first place. Maybe a dodgy update? Anyway, appreciate the help! 🙌
For a super detailed guide, check out Microsoft’s support page. Just search "how do i disable proxy windows 10" and it’ll pop up.
But yeah, like others said, it’s in Settings > Network > Proxy. Toggle it off and restart your browser. Easy peasy.
Proxies can slow things down or cause errors if they’re misconfigured.
If the basic steps don’t work, try resetting your network:
Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
Warning: This’ll forget your Wi-Fi passwords, so make sure you know them!
Ugh, proxies are the worst. Had this issue when my ISP messed up.
Try this:
- Open Control Panel > Internet Options
- Go to Connections tab > LAN settings
- Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is checked and proxy is unchecked.
If that doesn’t help, your ISP might be forcing a proxy.
If you’re still stuck, try using a tool like CCleaner to check for hidden proxy settings. Sometimes leftover registry entries cause problems.
But yeah, the main way is still Settings > Network > Proxy. Turn it off and see if your connection improves.
