"Why Aren’t My Chrome Proxy Settings Working? Any Solutions?"
Hey guys, so I’ve been messing with my chrome proxy settings for like an hour now, and nothing’s working?? I followed a bunch of tutorials, but Chrome just won’t connect.
I’m using a VPN, but even when I disable it, the proxy just refuses to cooperate. Anyone else run into this?
Also, is there a way to reset chrome proxy settings to default without reinstalling? Kinda desperate here lol.
Thanks in advance!

Yo, had the same issue last week! Turns out Chrome sometimes ignores system-wide proxy settings. Try going to chrome://settings/system and toggle "Use system proxy settings" off and on again.
Also, check if any extensions are messing with your chrome proxy settings—uBlock or a VPN extension might be interfering. Disable em one by one to test.
If all else fails, resetting Chrome flags (chrome://flags) to default might help. Good luck!
Ugh, proxies can be such a pain. Have you tried flushing your DNS? Open cmd and type `ipconfig /flushdns`. Sometimes Chrome’s cache gets weird with chrome proxy settings.
Also, double-check your proxy IP and port—sounds dumb, but I’ve wasted hours on a typo lol.
For a quick reset, you can delete Chrome’s proxy config file. Go to `%localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data` and look for "Preferences" (back it up first tho!).
Bro, same! Chrome proxy settings are finicky af. Try this:
1. Disable VPN completely (not just pause).
2. Go to chrome://net-internals/#proxy and clear the bad entries.
3. Restart Chrome.
If it’s still broken, maybe your ISP is blocking proxies? Test with a different network.
Also, Proxifier (paid tool) can force Chrome to use proxies if the built-in settings fail.
Hey! Had this issue when my antivirus (Avast) was overriding chrome proxy settings. Check if your security software has a "web shield" or similar feature—disable it temporarily.
Another thing: Chrome sometimes ignores manual proxies if Windows is set to auto-detect. Go to Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy and toggle "Automatically detect settings" off.
Hope that helps!
OMG thank you all so much!! The `chrome://net-internals/#proxy` trick worked—cleared some weird entries and now it’s connecting.
Still confused why the VPN was messing with chrome proxy settings even when off, but whatever. Also, didn’t know about the policy thing—gonna check that next.
Y’all are lifesavers fr. Time to binge-watch geo-locked content lol.
Weirdly, I fixed this by switching to a different proxy protocol. If you’re using HTTP, try SOCKS5 (or vice versa). Chrome proxy settings can be picky.
Also, check `chrome://policy/` to see if your admin (or malware??) locked the proxy. If policies are enforced, you’ll need to remove them manually.
Last resort: Firefox. Just saying.
