"Can’t Figure Out How to Turn Off VPN on iPhone? Any Tips?"
Hey guys,
I’m kinda stuck here—trying to turn off vpn on iphone but it’s not as straightforward as I thought?
I went to Settings > VPN, but the toggle’s grayed out or just not there. Am I missing something?
Also, does it depend on the app I’m using (like Nord or Express)? Or is there a glitch?
Any quick fixes or tips would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
(Ps. Already tried restarting, no luck 😅)
Hey! Had the same issue last week. If the toggle’s grayed out, it’s probably controlled by the VPN app you’re using (like Nord or Express).
Try opening the app directly and look for a disconnect option. Sometimes the settings in the app override the iPhone’s VPN settings.
If that doesn’t work, uninstalling the app might force the VPN to turn off. Just reinstall after.
Hope that helps!
Ugh, VPNs can be so annoying sometimes. For me, the trick was to go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
Sometimes the toggle hides there instead of the regular VPN section. Also, check if you have any profiles installed—those can lock the settings.
If all else fails, resetting network settings might do the trick (but you’ll lose Wi-Fi passwords, so be careful).
Yo, same problem here! Turns out some VPNs use a “Always-On VPN” feature that locks the toggle.
Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN. Tap the (i) next to your VPN and see if “Connect On Demand” is on. Turn that off, and you should be able to turn off vpn on iphone.
If not, maybe your work or school installed it? They sometimes restrict changes.
If the toggle’s missing, it might be a glitch. Try this:
1. Force close the VPN app.
2. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This usually clears any weird VPN leftovers. Just remember, it’ll wipe your Wi-Fi networks too.
Also, NordVPN has a guide on their site for fixing grayed-out toggles—worth a peek!
OP here—thanks for all the tips! Turns out my work profile was blocking the toggle (didn’t even know that was a thing).
Deleted the profile and now I can turn off vpn on iphone normally.
Quick q tho—if I reinstall the VPN app later, will it auto-enable again? Or can I stop that?
Thanks again, y’all saved me!
Bro, I feel you. Had this exact issue with ExpressVPN. The fix?
Open the VPN app > disconnect from there. If the app’s being stubborn, delete it entirely. Then restart your phone.
Sometimes the iPhone gets stuck thinking the VPN is active even when it’s not. A fresh install usually sorts it.
Let me know if that works!
Weirdly, my VPN toggle disappeared once because of a beta iOS update. If you’re on a beta, that might be the culprit.
Otherwise, try this:
- Go to Settings > General > Profiles (if you see it).
- Delete any VPN-related profiles.
No profiles? Maybe your VPN app has a “kill switch” enabled—check its settings.
Had this happen with Surfshark. The toggle was gone until I manually disconnected in the app.
Also, some VPNs add a widget to the Control Center—swipe down and see if there’s a VPN toggle there.
If nothing works, contacting support might be your best bet. They usually have device-specific fixes.
