"Do You Feel Guilty About Your Time Spent Scrolling?"
Hey everyone,
Okay, be honest—how often do you catch yourself *mindlessly* scrolling through social media or random articles? I swear, I open my phone for *one thing*, and suddenly an hour’s gone.
I don’t *always* feel guilty about the time spent online, but some days it’s like… *dang, I could’ve done something actually productive.*
Anyone else struggle with this? Or do you have tricks to keep your time spent scrolling in check?
(Also, low-key curious if anyone *doesn’t* feel guilty at all. Teach me your ways.)

*PS: If this post makes you pause mid-scroll… irony, lol.*
Oh man, I *totally* feel this. My time spent scrolling is ridiculous—I’ll open Instagram to check one DM and suddenly I’m deep in meme pages.
What’s helped me is setting app limits on my phone. iOS has Screen Time, and Android has Digital Wellbeing. They’re not perfect, but the little “time’s up” notification snaps me out of it sometimes.
Also, I’ve started keeping my phone in another room when I’m working. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
Guilty? Nah, not really. I see my time spent scrolling as a way to unwind. Like, after a long day, zoning out with dumb videos is my version of a mental break.
That said, if it’s cutting into stuff I *need* to do, I’ll use Forest app. Plant a virtual tree, and if you leave the app to scroll, it dies. Sounds silly, but it works for me.
Ugh, yes. The worst is when I realize I’ve been scrolling for an hour instead of sleeping.
I’ve tried deleting apps, but I just reinstall them lol. What *has* helped is replacing scrolling with something else, like reading an ebook or doing a quick puzzle. Less guilt, same chill vibe.
Anyone else try this?
Honestly, I used to feel super guilty about my time spent online until I reframed it. Not all scrolling is mindless—sometimes I’m learning stuff! Like, I follow a ton of educational accounts.
But if it’s *just* procrastination, I use Freedom to block distracting sites. Game-changer.
I’m the weirdo who doesn’t feel guilty. Scrolling is my hobby, fight me.
But I get why people do. If you wanna cut back, try the “5-minute rule.” Set a timer for 5 mins of scrolling, then stop. It’s short enough that you don’t fall into the void.
The struggle is real. My time spent scrolling skyrocketed during lockdown, and now it’s a habit.
What’s helped: turning off notifications. No buzz = less urge to check. Also, grayscale mode makes my phone less appealing. Boring colors = less dopamine hit.
Wow, thanks for all the tips, everyone! I’m definitely gonna try the Forest app and grayscale mode—sounds like a solid combo.
Also, love the idea of reframing scrolling as “learning time.” Maybe I’ll curate my feeds better so at least some of that time spent feels worthwhile.
Anyone else gonna test out these tricks? Let me know how it goes!
I track my time spent on apps with RescueTime. Seeing the numbers is *brutal* but motivating. Like, “I spent HOW MANY HOURS on TikTok this week?!”
Now I try to “earn” scroll time by doing something productive first. Finish a task = 10 mins of guilt-free scrolling.
