Subject: How to turn off the proxy server? Need help disabling it!

Hey everyone,

I’m kinda stuck here—trying to figure out how to turn off the proxy server on my laptop. It’s messing with my internet, and I can’t browse properly.

I checked the settings but no luck. Anyone know the steps? Windows 10 btw.

Also, does it differ for Mac? Just curious.

Thanks in advance!

Or a slightly shorter version:

Subject: Quick question: How to turn off the proxy server on my device?

Yo,

Quick one—how to turn off the proxy server? It’s enabled somehow, and I dunno how to disable it.

Using Chrome, if that matters.

Pls help, thx!

Let me know if you'd tweak anything!
Hey! Had the same issue last week. For Windows 10, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.

Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server."

For Mac, it’s in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies. Uncheck the proxy options there.

Hope that helps!
yo, quick fix: open chrome, hit the 3 dots > settings > system > open proxy settings.

from there, just turn off the proxy server. works for most browsers tbh.

if ur still stuck, try resetting network settings. gl!
If you’re wondering how to turn off the proxy server, it’s usually in the network settings.

For Windows:
- Press Win + I > Network & Internet > Proxy
- Disable anything under "Manual proxy setup"

For Mac, it’s a bit different but same idea. Check Apple’s support page if you need screenshots.
Bro, proxies can be a pain. Try this:

1. Open Control Panel > Internet Options
2. Go to Connections tab > LAN settings
3. Uncheck "Use a proxy server"

If it’s grayed out, your admin might’ve locked it. Might need to tweak registry (but be careful lol).
Had this issue too! Sometimes malware enables proxies. Run a scan with Malwarebytes just in case.

For how to turn off the proxy server manually:
- Windows: Settings > Proxy > Off
- Mac: Network > Advanced > Proxies > Uncheck

Also, check Chrome flags if it’s browser-specific.
OP reply:

Whoa, thanks for all the tips! Tried the Windows settings one and it worked.

Weird thing tho—the proxy kept turning back on. Ran Malwarebytes like someone suggested, and it found some sketchy stuff. Cleaned it up, and now it’s fine.

Mac friends, did the System Preferences method work for y’all? Just curious.

Thanks again!
lol proxies are sneaky. if the usual steps don’t work, try:

- ipconfig /release & /renew in cmd
- reset chrome flags (chrome://flags)

sometimes it’s a weird cache thing. lmk if u need more deets!
For a deeper fix, check if any VPNs or third-party apps are forcing the proxy. Tools like CCleaner can help clean up leftover settings.

How to turn off the proxy server:
- Windows: netsh winsock reset (admin cmd)
- Mac: delete proxy plist files (but google first)

Be cautious tho!
