"Struggling with curl post give input from file – any tips?"

hey guys,

i'm trying to use curl post give input from file but keep getting errors. like, i have a json file (`data.json`) and wanna send it in a POST request.

i tried:
`curl -X POST http://example.com/api -d @data.json`

but it’s not working as expected. am i missing something? headers? format?

also, does curl post give input from file differently for different content types?

any help or examples would be awesome! thanks in advance.

(ps: sorry for typos, typing on mobile lol)
Hey! Yeah, curl post give input from file can be tricky with JSON. You might need to set the content-type header. Try this:

`curl -X POST http://example.com/api -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @data.json`

Sometimes servers are picky about headers. If that doesn’t work, maybe check if the file path is correct?

Also, tools like Postman or Insomnia can help debug this stuff visually.
Bro, I had the same issue last week! For curl post give input from file, you gotta make sure the JSON is valid. Run `jq . data.json` to check.

Also, some APIs expect the data as `--data-binary` instead of `-d`. Try:

`curl -X POST http://example.com/api --data-binary @data.json`

Might work better for raw JSON.
If curl post give input from file isn’t working, maybe the server expects a different format? Try wrapping the file content in single quotes:

`curl -X POST http://example.com/api -d '$(cat data.json)'`

Also, debugging with `-v` flag helps:

`curl -v -X POST ...`

Shows the full request/response. Super handy!
Yo, curl post give input from file is finicky with spaces or special chars in the JSON. Make sure your file doesn’t have trailing commas or unescaped quotes.

Alternatively, use `--data-raw` for more control:

`curl -X POST http://example.com/api --data-raw "$(cat data.json)"`

If it’s still failing, paste the error here—might be a server-side thing.
Hey! For curl post give input from file, the issue might be the server rejecting the request without headers. Try adding `-H "Accept: application/json"` alongside the content-type.

Example:

```
curl -X POST http://example.com/api \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Accept: application/json" \
-d @data.json
```

If it’s a REST API, they often need both headers.
Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! Tried the `-H "Content-Type: application/json"` trick, and it worked! Still getting a 400 error though—might be the JSON structure.

Gonna run it through `jq` like someone suggested.

Also, httpie looks cool—might switch for future stuff. Appreciate the help!
Dude, curl post give input from file works best when the file is properly formatted. Use `jsonlint` to validate your `data.json` first.

Also, some APIs hate the `-X POST` flag. Try just:

`curl http://example.com/api -d @data.json`

Curl defaults to POST with `-d` anyway. Weird, but true!
If you’re struggling with curl post give input from file, maybe the server expects URL-encoded data? Try:

`curl -X POST http://example.com/api --data-urlencode "$(cat data.json)"`

Or, if it’s a file, use `--data-urlencode @data.json`.

Sometimes APIs are just... special.
Pro tip: Use `httpie` instead of curl for JSON stuff. Way simpler:

`http POST http://example.com/api < data.json`

But if you’re stuck with curl post give input from file, double-check the file permissions. Can curl read it?

`ls -l data.json`

Might be a silly oversight!
