"Is my proxy server slow or is it just me? Troubleshooting tips?"
Hey folks,
Sooo my proxy server has been crawling lately, and I can't tell if it's just my connection or the server itself. Anyone else deal with this?
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Restarted my router (classic move, lol)
- Switched locations on my proxy server
- Checked for any weird firewall rules
Still laggy af. Any other tricks I’m missing?
Also, how do you even *test* if it’s my proxy server or my internet? Speed tests seem unreliable when the proxy’s in the mix.

Hey! Had the same issue last week. Turns out my proxy server was getting hammered by too many requests.
Try running a ping test directly to the proxy IP vs. your normal connection. If the proxy pings are way higher, it’s probably the server.
Also, check out ProxyBench (free tool) to compare speeds with/without the proxy. Helped me narrow it down real quick.

Try this:
- Run a traceroute to see where the lag starts.
- Use a site like Pingdom to test response times through my proxy server vs. direct.
If the hops near the proxy are slow, blame the proxy. If not, might be your setup.
Formal-ish reply: The issue could be latency between your device and my proxy server.
Tools like MTR (Matt’s Traceroute) can help identify packet loss or high latency at specific hops.
Also, check if your proxy provider has a status page—sometimes it’s their fault, not yours.

Update: Tried ProxyBench and yeah, my proxy server is definitely the bottleneck. Pings are crazy high compared to direct.

Quick tip: Test with another device on the same network. If it’s also slow with my proxy server, then it’s not just you.
Also, try a different protocol (like switching from HTTP to SOCKS5). Sometimes that magically fixes things.
Had this EXACT problem. For me, it was DNS leaks messing with my proxy server speeds.
Fixed it by forcing DNS through the proxy. Use DNSLeakTest.com to check.
Also, clear your browser cache—sounds dumb but it helped me once.
