"Instagram restrict vs block – what's the diff and which should I use??
So like, someone’s being annoying af in my DMs or comments, but idk if I should *restrict* or *block* them.
From what I get:
- Restrict: They can still comment, but no one else sees it (lol savage). They won’t know they’re restricted.
- Block: They’re GONE. Can’t see your profile, DM, nada. But they’ll know u blocked them.
Which is better for drama? Restrict feels sneaky, block is more final.
What do y’all think? Ever used one over the other? Spill the tea ☕️
(Also pls tell me if I got this wrong lmao)"
Restrict is lowkey the best if you wanna avoid drama but still shut them down. Like, they’ll keep commenting thinking they’re being seen, but nahhh. Block is too obvious and might make them mad or start alt accounts.
If you’re dealing with a troll, restrict is sneaky-effective. But if it’s someone toxic af, just block and move on.
Also, Instagram’s help center has a page on this if you wanna double-check the deets.
Blocking is the nuclear option lol. They’re gone for good, but yeah, they’ll know. Restrict is more like… soft-blocking?
I used restrict on this guy who kept leaving weird comments, and he never even noticed. Meanwhile, blocking my ex was satisfying but he definitely knew lmao.
If you wanna be petty, restrict. If you wanna END it, block.
Honestly, it depends on how much you care about their reaction.
Restrict = no drama, they’re clueless.
Block = clean break, but might stir stuff up.
I’ve done both, and restrict is my go-to for randos. Block is for people who actually need to be yeeted off your profile.
Pro tip: Screenshot their nonsense before you block in case you need receipts later.
Restrict is like shadowbanning someone—they think they’re still in the game but they’re not. Block is just… delete.
If you’re dealing with someone persistent, block is better. Restrict is fun for passive-aggressive vibes tho.
Also, if you’re worried about them making new accounts, blocking might not even stop them. Restrict at least keeps ‘em in the dark.
I’ve been there lol. Restrict is *chef’s kiss* for subtlety. They’ll keep wasting their time commenting, and no one else has to see it.
Block is for when you’re done-done. Like, no more stalking, no more DMs. But yeah, they’ll know, so be ready for fallout if they’re the messy type.
Maybe try restrict first? You can always upgrade to block if they don’t take the hint.
Yo, thanks for all the replies! Def gonna try restrict first—love the idea of them yelling into the void lol.
But quick Q: If I restrict someone, can they still see my stories? Or is it just comments/DMs?
Also, someone mentioned muting—didn’t even know that was a thing. Gonna look into that too. Appreciate y’all!
Restrict is my fave because it’s so satisfying to watch them talk to themselves lmao. Block is too direct—sometimes you don’t wanna deal with the backlash.
But if they’re harassing you, block is the way. Safety > subtlety.
Also, Instagram’s settings let you mute DMs and stories too if you wanna go full stealth mode.
