Subject: Need the fastet screen capturer python lib – pls help!

Hey guys,

Trying to find the *fastest* way to grab screenshots in Python. Need something super quick for a project.

Tried a few libs but they’re kinda slow? Heard about `mss`, `Pillow`, `pyautogui`... but not sure which one’s the *fastet screen capturer python* has to offer.

Any recommendations? Bonus if it works on Windows/Linux.

Thx in advance!

Subject: Fastet screen capturer python – what’s your go-to?

Yo,

Working on a script that needs *crazy fast* screenshots. Tried `dxcam` and it’s decent, but wondering if there’s something even quicker.

What’s your pick for the *fastet screen capturer python* module? Need speed over fancy features.

Drop your favs below! Cheers.
If you're after the fastet screen capturer python has, dxcam is probably your best bet. It hooks into DirectX for super low latency, way faster than Pillow or pyautogui.

Works great on Windows, not sure about Linux tho. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!
MSS is solid for cross-platform speed. It’s way quicker than pyautogui and doesn’t need a GUI backend like some others.

For the fastet screen capturer python lib, I’d say mss + numpy combo is hard to beat. Works on Win/Linux too.
Yo, if speed’s the game, forget Pillow. Try dxcam or even win32api + ctypes for raw speed.

Not the easiest setup, but if you need the fastet screen capturer python can handle, it’s worth the hassle.
For real-time stuff, I’ve had luck with PyScreenCapture. Not as popular but surprisingly fast.

Pillow’s slow af for this. MSS is decent, but dxcam is king on Windows.

If you’re on Linux, maybe try scrot with subprocess? Not perfect but gets the job done fast.
Honestly, most libs are slow if you don’t optimize. MSS is good, but for the fastet screen capturer python option, dxcam + cropping only what you need is the way.

Also, disable anti-aliasing if you can—saves a ton of time.
Ever tried OpenCV with screen capture? It’s not the fastet screen capturer python lib out there, but with some tweaks, it’s pretty quick.

Plus, you get all the CV stuff built-in if you need it later.
If you’re on Windows, dxcam is unbeatable for speed. For Linux, MSS or even a custom X11 grabber might work.

For the fastet screen capturer python can offer, avoid anything that uses PIL—it’s just not built for speed.
Thanks for all the suggestions! Tried dxcam and it’s *way* faster than what I was using before.

Still tweaking it for Linux, but MSS seems like a good fallback. Anyone got tips for dxcam on multi-monitor setups?
