"Seriously, wtf is a subnet prefix length and why should I care?"
Alright, so I keep seeing this term thrown around, and I’m like… *cool, but what does it actually mean?*
Is it just some fancy way to say "how many IPs are in my subnet"? Or is there more to it?
Like, if I see /24 or /16, wtf does that even do? And why does it matter when setting up a network?
Someone break it down like I’m 5—no jargon, just straight-up simple terms.
Also, bonus points if you can explain why I’d ever need to change it. Am I gonna break something if I mess with it?
Thanks in advance, y’all. 🙏
