Hey guys,
Sooo my internet’s been acting weird lately, and I think it’s cuz of some proxy server settings. No idea how they got turned on, but I need to figure out how to disable proxy server stuff ASAP.
I’m on Windows 10 btw. Tried googling but all the guides are way too technical lol. Anyone got a simple step-by-step? Like, where exactly do I go in settings?
Also, does disabling it mess with anything else? Just wanna make sure I don’t break my connection completely haha.

Hey! I had the same issue last week. Here's how to disable proxy server on Windows 10:
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server."
That’s it! Super easy.
For Mac, it’s in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies. Uncheck any proxy boxes.
No, disabling it won’t break your connection—it’ll just stop routing through a proxy. Hope this helps!

try this: press Win + R, type "inetcpl.cpl" (no quotes), hit Enter.
Go to Connections tab > LAN settings.
Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN."

Proxies can def mess with your internet. Here’s a detailed way to disable proxy server settings:

Thanks everyone! Tried the Settings > Proxy method and it worked.
Weird thing tho—the proxy was set to some random IP. Did a malware scan like someone suggested and found a few sketchy files. Deleted em.
Roommate’s Mac is fixed too. Y’all are lifesavers!
One last Q: Could this have been a virus? Should I do anything else to secure my PC?

Yo, same prob here a while back.
Quick fix:
- Open Chrome (or whatever browser).
- Settings > System > Open proxy settings.
- Toggle that proxy crap off.
For Mac, it’s under Network settings like others said.
Also, check if any VPNs are running—they can fake proxy vibes.
