Subject: Need help: how to disable proxy server on my computer?

Hey guys,

Sooo my internet’s been acting weird lately, and I think it’s cuz of some proxy server settings. No idea how they got turned on, but I need to figure out how to disable proxy server stuff ASAP.

I’m on Windows 10 btw. Tried googling but all the guides are way too technical lol. Anyone got a simple step-by-step? Like, where exactly do I go in settings?

Also, does disabling it mess with anything else? Just wanna make sure I don’t break my connection completely haha.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

(PS: If you know how to disable proxy server on Mac too, drop that in—my roommate’s having the same issue.)
Hey! I had the same issue last week. Here's how to disable proxy server on Windows 10:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.

Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server."

That’s it! Super easy.

For Mac, it’s in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies. Uncheck any proxy boxes.

No, disabling it won’t break your connection—it’ll just stop routing through a proxy. Hope this helps!
omg proxies are such a pain. i feel u.

try this: press Win + R, type "inetcpl.cpl" (no quotes), hit Enter.

Go to Connections tab > LAN settings.

Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN."

Boom, done.

If ur still stuck, this site breaks it down with pics: [insert tech help site].

Mac ppl can just google "how to disable proxy server mac" and click the Apple support link.
Proxies can def mess with your internet. Here’s a detailed way to disable proxy server settings:

1. Open Control Panel > Internet Options.
2. Go to Connections > LAN settings.
3. Uncheck "Use a proxy server" and hit OK.

For Mac: System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies > uncheck everything.

Also, run a malware scan—sometimes proxies get enabled by sketchy software. Malwarebytes is free and works great.
Short answer:

Windows: Settings > Network > Proxy > turn off.

Mac: Network > Advanced > Proxies > uncheck.

Long answer: Proxies are usually harmless but can slow things down. Disabling them won’t break anything unless your work/school requires one.

If it’s still weird, reset your browser settings too.
Thanks everyone! Tried the Settings > Proxy method and it worked.

Weird thing tho—the proxy was set to some random IP. Did a malware scan like someone suggested and found a few sketchy files. Deleted em.

Roommate’s Mac is fixed too. Y’all are lifesavers!

One last Q: Could this have been a virus? Should I do anything else to secure my PC?
Yo, same prob here a while back.

Quick fix:

- Open Chrome (or whatever browser).
- Settings > System > Open proxy settings.
- Toggle that proxy crap off.

For Mac, it’s under Network settings like others said.

Also, check if any VPNs are running—they can fake proxy vibes.
Disabling a proxy server is easy, but first—why is it on? Did you install anything sketchy lately?

Anyway, for Windows:

Win + I > Network & Internet > Proxy > turn off manual proxy.

For Mac:

Apple menu > System Prefs > Network > Advanced > Proxies > uncheck all.

If it’s still acting up, try flushing DNS (google "how to flush DNS Windows 10").
