"Why does whatismyproxy show a different IP than my actual one?"

Hey folks, so I’m kinda confused rn.

I checked whatismyproxy, and it’s showing some random IP that’s *not* mine. Like, huh?

Is this normal? Am I accidentally using a proxy or VPN I forgot about? Or is whatismyproxy just trippin’?

Also, how do I even *verify* if this is accurate? Cuz if it’s wrong, that’s sketchy af.

Anyone else run into this? Pls help a confused soul out lol.

(And yes, I’ve tried restarting my router. Still the same.)

*Short, messy, and to the point—just like a real forum post! Lmk if you want tweaks.*
Yo, same thing happened to me last week! Turns out my ISP was using some weird transparent proxy.

Try checking your IP on other sites like ipleak.net or dnsleaktest.com. If they all show the same weird IP, it’s probably your ISP messing with things.

Also, whatismyproxy might just be picking up a cached result. Clear your browser cache and check again.
Bro, if whatismyproxy shows a diff IP, you’re *definitely* behind a proxy or VPN.

Check your browser settings—sometimes extensions like Hola or Windscribe can sneak in.

Or maybe your work/school network forces a proxy? Try connecting to mobile data and see if the IP changes.
whatismyproxy isn’t always accurate tbh. It’s just one tool.

Try ipinfo.io or myip.com for a second opinion. If they match your actual IP, then whatismyproxy is glitching.

If not… well, time to dig deeper.
This happened to me once and I freaked out lol.

Turns out my antivirus (Avast) was routing traffic through its "secure" proxy. Check your security software settings!

Also, run `ipconfig /all` in CMD to see if any proxy is set system-wide.
whatismyproxy can be weird sometimes.

But if you’re seeing a different IP, it’s *usually* one of three things:
- Your ISP’s proxy (annoying but common)
- A VPN/proxy you forgot about
- Malware (ugh)

Run a scan with Malwarebytes just in case.
Dude, restarting your router won’t fix a proxy issue if it’s set at the ISP level.

Try tracerouting to whatismyproxy’s server—might show where the traffic’s being redirected.

Or just call your ISP and ask if they’re using a proxy. Sucks, but it’s a thing.
OP here—thanks for all the replies!

Tried ipinfo.io and it matched whatismyproxy, so guess I *am* behind a proxy.

Weird tho, cuz I don’t remember setting one up. Gonna check my antivirus like someone suggested.

Also, ran Malwarebytes—clean. So maybe it’s my ISP? Ugh.

Anyone know how to *bypass* an ISP proxy if that’s the case? Or am I stuck with it?
whatismyproxy isn’t the most reliable tool imo.

Try using browserleaks.com/ip to cross-check. If it’s still off, you might have a system-wide proxy set.

Check Windows/Mac network settings for anything suspicious.
If whatismyproxy shows a diff IP, it’s *probably* not wrong.

Are you on public Wi-Fi? Some cafes/hotels force traffic through their proxies.

Try a different network and see if the IP changes. If it does, problem solved.
