"Hey guys, quick question: how do you turn off a proxy server?

I’m kinda stuck here—can’t find the settings anywhere. Tried googling but the instructions are all over the place.

Using Windows 10 btw. Is it in Network settings or Control Panel? Or somewhere else entirely?

Also, does it mess with anything if I just disable it? Need to fix this ASAP for work.

Thanks in advance! 🙏"

"Help! how do you turn off a proxy server?

I swear I’ve looked everywhere—settings, internet options, even dug into regedit (got scared and backed out lol).

Is there a simple way or am I missing something obvious?

On a Mac btw, but Windows tips might help others too.

Thanks y’all!"

"Stuck trying to disable proxy—how do you turn off a proxy server?

It’s driving me nuts. Every tutorial assumes I know where to look, but I don’t. 😅

Using Chrome, but system-wide would be better. Any shortcuts or step-by-step?

Much appreciated!"
Hey! If you're on Windows 10, here's how to turn off a proxy server:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.

Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server."

If it's grayed out, your admin might have locked it. Try checking Group Policy (gpedit.msc) or ask IT.

Disabling it shouldn’t break anything unless your work relies on it. Hope this helps!
omg i had this exact issue last week! for mac, it’s way simpler than regedit lol.

Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies.

Uncheck EVERYTHING in the list (HTTP, HTTPS, etc.).

Click OK > Apply. Done!

how do you turn off a proxy server? literally just uncheck boxes. life saver.
Bro, if you’re using Chrome, just type chrome://settings/system in the address bar.

Click "Open proxy settings" and it’ll take you straight to Windows’ proxy settings.

From there, disable it like others said.

Also, if you’re still stuck, this guide breaks it down with pics: https://www.howtogeek.com/293430/how-to-...indows-10/
Wait, why do you wanna disable it? Just curious—sometimes proxies are set for security.

But yeah, how do you turn off a proxy server? On Windows, you can also try:

Press Win + R, type "inetcpl.cpl," go to Connections > LAN settings.

Uncheck "Use a proxy server."

If it’s a work laptop, tho, might wanna check with IT first.
Yo, thanks everyone! Didn’t expect so many replies so fast.

Tried the Chrome flags trick and it worked like a charm. Still gotta figure out the system-wide fix, but this gets me unblocked for now.

Weirdly, the proxy was set by some old VPN I forgot about. Smh.

Appreciate y’all! 🙌
Ugh, proxies are the worst. Here’s a quick fix if the usual steps don’t work:

1. Open Command Prompt as admin.
2. Type "netsh winhttp reset proxy" and hit enter.

Boom. Resets everything. No more proxy nonsense.

Works for most cases when you can’t figure out how do you turn off a proxy server the normal way.
For Chrome specifically, you can bypass the system proxy by going to:

chrome://flags > search "proxy" > enable "Ignore system proxy settings."

Not a permanent fix, but great if you just need a quick workaround.

Also, Fiddler (a tool) can help debug proxy issues if you’re stuck: https://www.telerik.com/fiddler
