"Plugin scrap piling up—how do you manage it?"

Hey folks!

So, my WordPress site’s getting *slow*, and I’m pretty sure it’s cuz of all the plugin scrap left behind from old/unused plugins.

Like, I delete stuff but still find random files, DB tables, or settings hanging around. Annoying, right?

Anyone got a solid way to clean this up?

- Manual cleanup? (ugh, tedious)
- A plugin that actually works for this? (ironic, I know lol)
- Or just nuke the site and start fresh? (kidding... kinda)

Would love to hear how y’all deal with plugin scrap. Cheers!

"Is plugin scrap slowing down your site? How do you handle it?"

Seriously, this stuff adds up. What’s your go-to fix?
Ugh, plugin scrap is the worst! I had the same issue and found that WP-Optimize works pretty well for cleaning up leftover DB tables and files.

It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than doing it manually. Also, check out Advanced Database Cleaner—specifically for orphaned plugin data.

Pro tip: Backup first, tho. Always.
I feel your pain! Manual cleanup is a nightmare, but sometimes it’s the only way to be sure.

I use a combo of phpMyAdmin (for DB tables) and FTP (for leftover files). It’s tedious, but you get used to it.

If you’re not comfy with that, maybe try a staging site first? Less risk if you mess up.
Lol @ “nuke the site”—I’ve been there.

But seriously, plugin scrap is a real performance killer. I switched to using Plugin Organizer to disable unused plugins without fully deleting them. Less clutter, fewer leftovers.

Not a full fix, but helps manage the mess.
Yo, same problem here! My site was crawling until I ran a scan with Cleanup Optimizer.

It found a ton of junk files and old plugin scraps I didn’t even know were there.

Free version does the basics, but paid unlocks more deep-cleaning tools. Worth a look!
Honestly? I gave up and hired a dev to clean it up.

Turns out some plugins leave behind crazy stuff—custom tables, hidden options, even cron jobs. If you’re not techy, might be worth the $$ to save the headache.

Just my 2 cents!
Plugin scrap is like digital glitter—gets everywhere and never fully goes away.

I’ve had luck with WP Reset for a *near*-fresh start. It wipes settings but keeps content. Not for the faint-hearted, but it works.

Just... maybe don’t do it on a Friday night. Learned that the hard way.
Ever tried Health Check & Troubleshooting? It’s a WP plugin that lets you disable stuff without affecting live visitors.

Helps spot which plugins are causing issues (and leaving scraps). Not a cleaner, but great for diagnosing the mess first.
For DB cleanup, I swear by WP-Sweep. Lightweight and does one thing well: removing plugin scraps from the database.

No bloat, no fuss. Just sweeps up the junk.

Also, +1 to backups. Always.
Wow, thanks for all the tips! Didn’t realize how many tools were out there for plugin scrap.

Gonna try WP-Optimize and WP-Sweep first—seems like the least risky options.

If that fails... well, maybe the nuke option isn’t *totally* off the table lol. Appreciate the help!
