"Can I Purchase a Static IP Address? Best Providers and Costs?"

Hey folks! So, I’ve been wondering—can i purchase a static ip address for my home setup? Tired of my dynamic IP messing with my server and remote access.

Any recommendations for providers that won’t break the bank? Heard some ISPs offer it, but their pricing is all over the place.

Also, what’s the avg cost? Seen stuff like $5/month to $50, which seems wild.

If you’ve got one, was it worth it? Or am I better off sticking with dynamic + DDNS?

Thanks in advance! 🙏

(PS: If you’ve got a fav provider, drop the name—no shady stuff pls lol)
Hey! So yeah, you can purchase a static ip address, but it depends on your ISP. Some offer it as an add-on for like $10-$15/month. Mine (Spectrum) charges $15, which is kinda steep, but it’s been rock-solid for my Plex server.

If your ISP doesn’t offer one, check out services like NordVPN’s dedicated IP or even AWS if you’re tech-savvy. DDNS is a decent workaround, but if you need reliability, static is the way to go.

Btw, avoid those sketchy "lifetime IP" deals—they’re usually scams.
Static IPs are totally worth it if you’re running servers or need consistent remote access. My ISP (AT&T) charges $10/month, but I’ve also used Cloudflare’s tunneling as a free alternative—works surprisingly well!

If you’re asking "can i purchase a static ip address" from third parties, be careful. Some resellers are legit, but others might get you banned. Stick with known providers like DigitalOcean or Vultr if you’re going that route.

Cost-wise, $5-$20 is normal. Anything higher is overkill for home use.
lol i was in the same boat last year. My dynamic IP kept changing and messed up my security cams. Ended up getting a static IP from my ISP (Comcast) for $20/month. Yeah, it’s pricey, but no more headaches.

If you don’t wanna pay, try No-IP or DuckDNS for free DDNS. It’s not the same as a static IP, but it’s close enough for most stuff.

Btw, some VPNs like Surfshark offer dedicated IPs too—might be cheaper than your ISP.
Honestly, unless you’re hosting something critical, DDNS is fine. I’ve been using afraid.org’s free DDNS for years with zero issues. But if you *must* know can i purchase a static ip address, yeah, most ISPs offer it.

Prices vary wildly—my buddy pays $5/month with a local ISP, while Verizon charges like $30. It’s ridiculous.

Pro tip: Check if your router supports DDNS natively. Mine does, and it’s a game-changer.
If you’re techy, you can set up a cheap VPS with a static IP (Linode starts at $5/month) and route your traffic through it. Way cheaper than some ISP plans.

But yeah, you can purchase a static ip address from your ISP if you don’t wanna DIY. Just call them and ask—sometimes they don’t even list it on their site.

Cost? $10-$20 is average. Anything more and you’re getting ripped off unless it’s a business line.
Wow, thanks for all the replies! Didn’t realize there were so many options. I’ll definitely check with my ISP first—sounds like it might be the easiest route.

The DDNS suggestions are great too. Gonna test out Cloudflare’s tunneling since a few of you mentioned it. If that doesn’t cut it, I’ll probably bite the bullet and get a static IP.

Really appreciate the heads-up about sketchy resellers lol. Almost fell for one of those "lifetime IP" scams.

Thanks again, y’all! 🙌
DDNS is a solid free alternative, but if you need 100% uptime, static IP is the move. My ISP (Frontier) charges $12/month, and it’s been flawless for my home lab.

Also, check out services like PureVPN or TorGuard for dedicated IPs—sometimes cheaper than ISPs. Just google "can i purchase a static ip address" and compare options.

Avoid random resellers though. Stick with big names unless you wanna risk getting blacklisted.
