"Stuck with proxy settings—how to turn off proxy completely?"
Hey guys,
I’m kinda lost here. My internet’s acting up, and I think it’s because of some proxy settings.
Can someone explain how to turn off proxy on Windows? Like, step by step? I’m not super techy, so keep it simple pls.
Or if you know how to turn off proxy on Mac, that’d help too! Just wanna get rid of it completely.
Thanks in advance!

"Quick question: how to turn off proxy? Getting connection errors."
yo, my wifi’s being weird and i think it’s the proxy.
anyone know how to turn off proxy on windows/mac? like, the easiest way?
tried googling but got confused lol. help a buddy out!
cheers!
Hey! If you're on Windows, here's how to turn off proxy completely:
1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
2. Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server."
For Mac: System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies, then uncheck all proxy options.
If you're still stuck, try resetting network settings—sometimes that fixes weird issues.
yo, had the same issue last week!
on windows: press Win+R, type "inetcpl.cpl", go to Connections > LAN settings, then uncheck "use proxy server."
mac: apple menu > system prefs > network > advanced > proxies tab. uncheck everything!
hope that helps. if not, maybe try a VPN to bypass proxy stuff?
Not techy? No worries! Here's a simple way to turn off proxy on Windows:
- Open Chrome (or any browser).
- Go to Settings > System > Open proxy settings.
- Toggle off the proxy option.
For Mac, it's similar—just dig into Network settings.
Btw, if you're getting errors, check if any VPN or work software forced a proxy.
ugh proxies are the worst.
windows: control panel > internet options > connections > LAN settings. make sure "automatically detect settings" is ON and proxy is OFF.
mac: just google "how to turn off proxy mac" and follow apple's guide—it's pretty clear.
also, restart your pc after changing settings. fixes like 50% of issues lol.
If you're still stuck, try this:
Windows:
- Search for "proxy" in Start menu > click "Proxy settings."
- Disable everything under "Manual proxy setup."
Mac:
- Terminal command `networksetup -setwebproxystate Wi-Fi off` (replace Wi-Fi with your connection name).
Pro tip: some malware sets proxies—run a scan if things seem fishy.
hey! here's a quick fix for how to turn off proxy:
windows:
- hit Win+I > Network & Internet > Proxy.
- turn off "use a proxy server."
mac:
- system prefs > network > wifi/ethernet > advanced > proxies.
- uncheck all boxes.
if that doesn't work, maybe your ISP is forcing a proxy? call them.
bro, same problem.
windows 10/11:
- settings > network & internet > proxy.
- flip the switch under "manual proxy setup."
mac:
- apple logo > system prefs > network > advanced > proxies.
- uncheck ALL the proxy options.
also, check for sketchy apps—some install proxies without asking.
For a no-frills guide on how to turn off proxy:
Windows:
- Open IE (yeah, lol) > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings.
- Uncheck "Use a proxy server."
Mac:
- Terminal: `networksetup -setwebproxystate Ethernet off` (or Wi-Fi).
Still issues? Might be a DNS thing—try Google's DNS (8.8.8.8).
OP reply:
yo thanks everyone!! the windows method worked (settings > network > proxy).
but now my wifi's still slow—any chance the proxy left traces? or should i just reset my router?
also, shoutout to the mac tips—helping my roommate too lol.

(alternate OP reply):
